Celebrations were held in Turkmenistan on 13 September to mark inauguration of a number of social-economic facilities in Esenguly district of Balkan province. The construction of facilities started in spring 2007 as part of the project on development of the social-economic infrastructure of this remote place of the Caspian region.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov severely reprimanded chairman of Turkmenistan's state committee for tourism and sport Byashim Kerimov at a government meeting on 12 September. He signed a decree to this effect.

A group of drug dealers was apprehended in Ashgabat as a result of a special operation, the General Prosecutor's office of Turkmenistan said.

Deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov will attend the 63rd session of the UN Assembly to be held in New York between 28 September and 1 October 2008.
