Over almost a century-long development the Turkmen power industry has made a hard but extremely productive path from primitive diesel engines producing an insignificant amount of power to high-capacity gas-turbine units.

Though, an electric power unit driven by a diesel engine was first used at the railroad car repair plant in the town of Kyzylarvat (present day Serdar) in 1906, the Turkmen power industry’s year of birth is considered 1913, when construction of Hindu Kush hydroelectric power plant was completed on the Murghab River.

The new Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev, preserving his predecessor’s preferences in the foreign policy, did not start “discovering Americas” in the direct and indirect sense of a word, and in fact followed Vladimir Putin’s route he had made eight years before.
