Olympic city project presented in Ashgabat A unique sport complex, the Olympic city, was presented today in Ashgabat at a ceremony that was attended by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkmen government officials and the diplomatic corpse accredited in Turkmenistan, the press service of the ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
The idea of creating the Olympic city belongs to the Turkmen president. The project of construction of this unique complex is also being developed on his instruction. The complex is to become a solid architectural-sport ensemble occupying 150 hectares with the Olympic stadium that is already in place in Ashgabat.
The new Olympic city would accommodate multipurpose sport facilities, training facilities and Olympic sport grounds as well as a residential compound for sportsmen, hotels for guests and social-cultural facilities.
A hokey palace for 10 thousand people will become a unique facility. It will have a special school of Olympic reserve of Turkmenistan for 3650 students and a dormitory for 300 students.
A covered water facility for 5000 viewers and a pool for swimming and diving will be built there. A covered cycle track with indoor grounds for bowling, badminton and table tennis will be also built. The project provides for reconstruction of the existing Olympic stadium of Turkmenistan to increase its capacity from 33 to 60 thousand people.
