Gasprom delegation holds talks with Turkmenistan's fuel-energy complex leadership in Ashgabat
Talks were held today in Ashgabat between Russia's Gazprom Open Joint Stock Company and the leadership of Turkmenistan's oil and gas sector. The Gazprom delegation is headed by the chairman of the board of Gazprom, Aleksey Miller.
The sides discussed the pace of implementation of earlier reached agreements on Turkmen gas supplies to the Russian Federation, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) said. The sides expressed mutual satisfaction with the present level of cooperation in the gas sector, which is being successfully developed within the framework of the 25-year interstate agreement.
The sides agreed on joint plans for the near future and discussed possible areas of strategic partnership. The sides also held detailed discussion on the issues of the practical implementation of a project of construction of a gas pipeline along the Caspian Sea coast which was enshrined in a tripartite Turkmen-Russian-Kazakh agreement. Furthermore, the talks participants discussed the possibility of development of gas transportation capacities in the Central Asian region, in particular, within the framework of a proposal, put forward by the president of Turkmenistan and supported by the heads of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, on the modernization of the existing interstate Central Asia-Centre-4 gas transportation system.
According to the head of Gazprom, the main buyer of Turkmen gas, Turkmenistan is a long-standing, reliable strategic partner as regards the issues of ensuring energy security and reliable gas supplies.
