St Petersburg to help Ashgabat develop city infrastructure St Petersburg enterprises will help the capital of Turkmenistan to construct city road junctions, parking spaces, introduce new technologies of road marking, and modernize street illumination systems. Agreements have been reached on a number of spheres of cooperation, Ashgabat governor Deriyageldy Orazov said at a meeting with St Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko held in St Petersburg on June 16.
During the meeting the sides discussed prospects for cooperation of two mega cities within the framework of the agreement on cooperation between Turkmenistan and St Petersburg signed during V.Matviyenko's visit to Ashgabat in February 2004, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports quoting St Petersburg city administration.
According to Valentina MMatviyenko, St Petersburg and Ashgabat will benefit from sharing experience in addressing problems common to big cities. First of all, the point is about development of city infrastructure, in particular improvement of water supply and water distribution, construction of the underground, roads and junctions, sport facilities. She suggested that her Turkmen colleagues pay particular attention to the experience and achievements of St Petersburg's Vodokanal, Metrostroy, Energomashstroy enterprises as well as road and bridge construction specialists.
