Turkmenistan announces regular military call up

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed the decree "On transferring servicemen, who completed their compulsory service, to the reserve from the Armed Forces and other forces of Turkmenistan, and on the regular call up of Turkmen citizens to military service."

According to the decree, soldiers who were called up to military service and completed their term of service will be transferred to the reserve from the Armed Forces and other forces of Turkmenistan in October-December 2008.

At the same time, under the decree, Turkmen male citizens who reached the age of 18 by the day of call up, who do not have the right for deferment from military service, as well as older citizens who lost their right for decrement will be called up to military service in October-December 2008.

17 year-old volunteers can join the army on their personal request. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also signed a resolution ordering ceremonial transfer of servicemen to the reserve and awarding those servicemen who succeeded in combat and theoretical training, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports quoting the press service of the Turkmen president.
