1670 prisoners to be pardoned on Night of Decree eve

On the eve of one of the main nights of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan – the Night of Decree (Gadyr Gidjesi), 1670 prisoners will be released in Turkmenistan.

As the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru reports, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has signed the relevant decree at the extraordinary XXI session of Khalk Maslakhaty (People’s Council) today. The text of the resolution and lists of the pardoned will be published in central newspapers of the country.

This year, the Gadyr Gidjesi falls on the night from September 27 to September 28. Turkmenistan has been practicing the pardoning act on the eve of the Night of Decree since 1988. Last year, in the frames of the traditional action, over 9,000 people, including foreign citizens, were released.
