Turkmen foreign ministry refutes report in Nezavisimaya Gazeta

The ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan issued a statement for press in relation to a report in the Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta on Turkmenistan's alleged readiness to allow "open training camps in its territory" and "to deploy warehouses and logistical support bases for troops" of foreign countries and their military alliances.

"These kinds of publications are obvious misinformation of a clearly provocative nature. The "information" these reports contain absolutely does not correspond to reality and actually is a rude attempt to damage the high international reputation of Turkmenistan, the neutral status of which was officially confirmed by a special resolution of the UN General Assembly."

The ministry stressed that in line with the Turkmen constitution and the constitutional law "On permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan," "Foreign policy concept of Turkmenistan as a neutral state," "Military doctrine of independent and permanently neutral Turkmenistan" the country is not part of any military alliances and blocs, nor is it deploying foreign military bases in its territory.

"Proceeding from this, the Turkmen side regards such kinds of publications as inadmissible and expresses confidence that such insinuations, aimed at damaging positive developments in Turkmenistan's relations with other countries, will be stopped using all legal means," the statement said.
