Politics : President of Turkmenistan receives Japanese businessmen

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received a Japanese business delegation led by Co-Chairman of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Co-Operation, Vice President of Itochu Corporation Mr. Sumitaka Fudzita.

Cordially greeting the guests the Turkmen leader focused with satisfaction on the high level of Turkmen-Japanese partnership successfully maintained in a broad range of the fields including the deliveries of high-powered road-building and earth-moving machinery. Expressing belief that a regular meeting of the bilateral committee for economic co-operation would offer a powerful incentive to intensify effective collaboration Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that this co-operation was regarded as of paramount importance and very promising basing on its profound potential and experience of many years as well as the large-scale reform programmes implemented in Turkmenistan.

Thanking for the opportunity of a personal meeting Mr. Sumitaka Fudzita emphasized that he considered it an honour to be received by the President of Turkmenistan. The guest said that the positive reforms implemented in Turkmenistan on the initiative of the nationwide elected leader that had drawn a wide response worldwide aroused keen interest and were welcomed in Japan. The businessmen informed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of the progress of the contracts in particular concluded in the fuel and energy sector, water industry and agriculture noting that the Japanese companies met their engagements in accordance with schedule. Focusing on the Japanese companies’ intense interest in expanding mutually advantageous partnership with Turkmenistan conditioned by the exceptionally wide prospects of the Turkmen market and the country’s huge economic potential Mr. Sumitaka Fudzita stated that the company intended extending the long-term agreement with Turkmenistan till 2015.

The interlocutors exchanged views on promotion of Turkmen-Japanese co-operation that, as the interlocutors admitted, had the considerable opportunities for developing in the mutual interests. Specifying the most promising fields of partnership the interlocutors focused on expansion of the fruitful contacts in the fuel and energy sector. In particular, the business proposition to consider the opportunities of constructing the facilities producing highly demanded Turkmen polypropylene and other works at the Turkmenbashi oil refineries and collaborating in the project on reconstruction of the Seydi oil refinery was made to the Japanese partners. Co-operation in the sphere of marketing was specified as an important aspect of collaboration. The interlocutors stated that the international business circles including the Japanese companies saw the on-going large-scale projects on development of transport infrastructure in Turkmenistan as an important factor of enhancing bilateral business partnership. Agriculture and urban development were specified as the promising fields of partnership as well.

On behalf of the Komatsu senior management CEO, President of the Department for Overseas Marketing, Construction and Mining Equipment of the Komatsu Company Mr. Taizo Kayata expressed sincere gratitude to the Turkmen leader for his constructive approach to co-operation stating that Komatsu regarded Turkmenistan as a dependable and responsible partner. Informing of the company’s readiness to expand long-term co-operation the guest noted that the Turkmen partners’ positions would be taken into consideration.

Emphasizing that Komatsu machinery effectively operated in numerous construction sites throughout the country Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called for further enhancing fruitful partnership within the framework of the large-scale programme on development of rural areas.

In this regard the Japanese partners put forward the specific offers to improve support manning of equipment and machines delivered to Turkmenistan. The guests said that the company stood ready to collaborate fruitfully in training local specialists that met the requirements set by the Turkmen leader for foreign partners willing to operate in Turkmenistan.

Development of humanitarian co-operation in the sphere of education and sports as well was a focus of the talks. The guests thanked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the decision to open the specialty the Japanese language at the D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of the World Languages.

The Japanese partners thanked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the opportunity to discuss the priority issues of co-operation during the personal meeting and assured that the Japanese large companies stood ready to offer their expertise, innovations and advanced technologies to Turkmenistan. Upon concluding the meeting the Turkmen leader wished fruitful work to the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Co-Operation.
