In his welcoming address the Turkmen leader stressed the importance of the international pipeline Dowletabat-Sarakhs-Hangeran "as integral part of a global system of stable energy supplies." He also noted that the construction of the pipeline was completed in a short time. According to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, this was "the result of trustful and close cooperation between the two neighboring countries."

"While delivering its energy resources to world markets, Turkmenistan remains committed to the invariable principle of reliability of supplies of its energy resources to consumers on the stable and long-term basis, and implements specific projects with its partners," the president of Turkmenistan said.

In turn, the Iranian president stressed that a new international pipeline would contribute to the development of fruitful cooperation in the fuel and energy sphere not only between the two countries but also between countries of the region. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed confidence that with the launch of the pipeline the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in transport and energy sector, investment and trade areas will successfully continue.

The new gas pipeline Dovletabad-Sarahs-Hangeran along with Korpedje-Gurtkui gas pipeline, which has been in operation for twelve years in the west of Turkmenistan, will ensure the annual exports of 20 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas to the Iranian consumers.

The gas pipeline and new gas measuring station "Sarahs" on the Turkmen-Iranian border were built by the Turkmen specialists. The projected capacity of the new gas artery is 12 billion cubic meters of gas annually. Turkmen gas will be transported via the new pipeline from Dovletabad field, one of the largest gas fields in Turkmenistan. Experts of both countries agreed on the market price of natural gas calculated on the basis of the international formula.

According to the technological scheme, the new pipeline is connected to the main gas pipeline Dowletabat-Deryalyk, which also ensures the supply of Turkmen gas to Russia.
