Turkmenistan returns to common names of months and days of week The universally recognized names of months - January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December - have come into effect in Turkmenistan as of July 1, 2008.
Apart from that, national names for days of the week have also come into effect - Dushenbe for the first day, Sishenbe for the second day, Charshenbe for the third day, Peshenbe for the fourth day, Anna for the fifth day, Shenbe for the sixth day and Yekshenbe for the seventh day.
It should be recalled that in May 2008 Turkmen parliament members unanimously adopted the decree "On the national system of chronology in Turkmenistan" in connection with "numerous requests from the citizens of Turkmenistan on switching to the universally recognized names of months and to names for days of the week commonly used in the orient, including Turkmenistan".
