The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan, Murad Mardanovich Atanov, aged 56, suddenly died on 31 May 2008. M.M.Atanov joined the diplomatic service in 1992 bringing with him extensive experience in the field of science and state affairs.

Politics : Turkmenistan, Korean Republic sign bilateral documents

A set of bilateral documents was signed on results of the Turkmen-Korean talks held in Ashgabat on May 16. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, South Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo as well as members of official delegation of the two countries attended the signing ceremony, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) said.

"NATO is going to continue building up its relations with Turkmenistan with respect and taking due account of its neutral status," the NATO secretary general's special representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Robert Simmons, said at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat on May 12.
