On 31 August, Russian first deputy prime minister Victor Zubkov attended an inauguration ceremony of the Russian Gubkin Oil and Gas University (RGU) branch in Ashgabat as well as a ceremony that bid farewell to Turkmen students admitted by various Russian higher educational establishments.

The ceremony was held at the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute, one building of which was allocated to the RGU branch. The Russian vice prime minister said a modern building would be built for the branch in the coming two years. Professor V.I.Darischev was appointed the branch head.

The opening of the Russian university branch in Ashgabat is "graphic evidence of the Russian leadership's constructive approach to cooperation with Turkmenistan," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting with Victor Zubkov on 30 August.

During the meeting the sides also discussed issues of further cooperation in the fuel-energy sector, as the priority area of Turkmen-Russian partnership, as well as in agriculture, namely seed-growing, transport-communication spheres and others.

It should be mentioned that Victor Zubkov visited Ashgabat to co-chair a meeting of the Turkmen-Russian joint commission for economic cooperation.
