Azerbaijani president arrives in Turkmenistan on official visit

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit on 28 November. Turkmen TV carried live broadcast of a ceremony of Azerbaijani president's reception, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat. From the airport Ilham Aliyev proceeded to the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, which is the official residence of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The Turkmen-Azerbaijani high level talks are currently under way in Ashgabat. The sides are expected to discuss a wide range of issues related to cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

The president will sign a set of bilateral documents aimed at speeding up partnership in all strategic areas, fist of all in the fuel and energy sector, which is a base sector for both countries, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) said.
The sides agreed to strengthen partnership in the spheres of power engineering, transport, economy and education, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat. Four documents were signed on the result of talks between the two countries.

"Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, who are rich in hydrocarbons, share a common position on the policy of diversification of exports of energy resources to the world markets," Berdimuhamedov said at a press conference. Speaking of the Caspian Sea energy resources, the leader of Turkmenistan noted that "there is a shared view on the issue of prospecting, developing, processing and sale of this strategic raw material."

The ministries of transportation of the two countries signed an agreement on establishing a train ferry link between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku as well as on cargo shipments between them. The sides also signed an agreement on cooperation between the ministries of education of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan and an intergovernmental agreement on the Turkmen-Azerbaijani commission for economic cooperation.
