Russian New Year Tree installed in central square of Ashgabat

Turkmenistan's main New Year tree was lit up in the central square of Ashgabat on 22 December. The tree is 33 m high and 25 m around. The green beauty is made of more than 6 thousand conifer trees brought in Turkmenistan from Russia, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat.

The installation of the New Year tree took three days. It took three more days to decorate the tree. It is reported that 3 kilometers of the lamp garland, 600 colorful balls, almost 500 meters of glass bead, thousand of snowflakes, icicle and stars were used to decorate the tree.

Hundreds of children participated in the New Year Tree opening ceremony. Ayaz Baba and his granddaughter Garapamyk (Turkmen version of Santa Claus and Snow Maiden) entertained children. The ceremony also marked the opening of New Year Trees in all five provinces of Turkmenistan.

In total, about one hundred New Year Trees were installed in popular places of Turkmenistan, including state organizations and trade centers of Ashgabat, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) reports quoting the Ashgabat Center for City Decoration.
