Celebrating Victory Day

Each year Victory Day is celebrated in Turkmenistan as an event of imperishable value, as a nationwide holiday. Various events are arranged throughout the country to commemorate the heroic deed of the glorious defenders of the Motherland, all those, who endured the ordeals and hardships of the wartime. These include the meetings with the widows of the Turkmen soldiers, who perished in the battlefields, and the war veterans, who are held in high respect in the Turkmen state.

The big concerts organized by the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting Activities and the Ashgabat Khyakimlik started the traditional festive musical ‘marathon’ at the Altyn Asyr Park in Ashgabat and the Palace of Mukams of the National Cultural Centre. The musical soirees brought together the people and guests of Ashgabat, who came there to enjoy the wonderful songs and poems glorifying the immortal feat of arms of the national heroes. The Magtymguly Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre opened the festive theatrical season with the staging “Memory”.

The ceremony of honouring the Great Patriotic War veterans was held at the Alp Arslan Turkmen National Youth Theatre. The Doors to the Sweet Life based on G. Danatarov’s play and staged by G. Bekiev based was performed at the Alp Arslan Turkmen National Youth Theatre. The A. S. Pushkin Russian Drama Theater dedicated the staging based on A. Dudarev’s play Recollection to Victory Day. It will be presented to the people and guests of Ashgabat on May 8.

The war veterans and the Turkmen soldiers’ widows will meet with schoolchildren and students on these festive days. On the days of the nationwide celebrations the songs glorifying national heroes, peace and beauty of the native land, the classical works and national melodies will be heard on the open-air stages throughout Ashgabat – the Altyn Asyr Park and under the domes of the Magtymguly Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre and the Mollanepes Student Theatre. Young figure skaters will perform a colorful show and the hockey matches will be held at the Ice Palace. A concert of the best artistic groups, popular singers and musicians, the theatrical and folklore ensembles in the Independence Park on May 9 will be the culmination of the Victory Day celebrations.

The festive events are organized by the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting Activities in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the velayat, etrap and municipal khyakimliks.
