Tourism and Culture : Archaeologist Viktor Sarianidi to tell news about Margush

Over 50 archaeological findings, which were already transferred to the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan, represent the works of masters of III-II century BC. They include the unique bronze articles, terracotta statuettes, fragments of images of animals made of porcelain and earthenware, original articles made of stone, mosaics with storylines and ornamental compositions, which decorated wall and grave goods of royal mausoleums, specimen of ceramic tableware and other items.

Scientists believe that the country of Margush (Margiana) was the birthplace of Zoroastrianism and fifth center of world civilization along with Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and China. There is a famous monument of history and culture of Turkmenistan in the ancient delta of Murgab River in Mary province - the largest settlement of the Bronze Age, presumably the capital of Margiana - Gonur-Depe. The excavations in the territory of the palace-temple complex are carried out by a joint expedition of the National Department for Protection, Study and Restoration of Monuments of History and Culture under the Ministry of Culture, TV and Radio of Turkmenistan and the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences led by Victor Sarianidi.
