The International Carpet Exhibition timed to the national holiday of Turkmenistan - Turkmen Carpet Day is closed in Ashgabat.
The representative exposition included the best specimen of carpets and carpet articles, various household articles, women’s silver and gold wear and works of applied art created by the craftsmen from all over the country.
Thousands of the people and guests of Ashgabat including the participants of the international conference dedicated to hand-made carpet weaving visited the three-day exposition.
The exhibition vividly evidenced the unique talent of Turkmen carpet makers, their diligence, inherent sense of beauty and testified to profound concern that the Turkmen Government had in development of the national art of carpet weaving in the country, preservation and propagation of the ancient traditions of carpet weaving. The best works of the modern art of Turkmen carpet weaving were of particular interest to the visitors. Everyone willing could buy one.
The carpets restored by the Turkmen designers on basis of the ancient specimens kept in the private and museum collections worldwide were very popular among the visitors. The reproductions of the XVIII-XIX-century carpets served as the standards for the Turkmen designers.
The carpet portraits and landscapes that absorbed the colours of the native land occupied a special place at the exhibition. The exposition included the present day hand-made masterpieces, whose ornaments were interlaced with the symbols of the new epoch of independence and revival.
The well-known carpet manufacturers from Belgium, Iran and Afghanistan presented the products at the exhibition. Thus, the Ashgabat exhibition vividly showed that the reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov promoted the considerable work on restoration of the ancient patterns and elaboration of the carpet making technology that had been carried out in the short period that enabled to increase production and export of miraculous carpets.
Upon closing the exhibition the participants took part in the Turkmen Carpet Day celebrations traditionally arranged throughout the country on last Sunday of May.
The main celebrations were arranged at the Turkmen Carpet Museum that housed the large-scale exposition of carpet and works of applied art. The riot of colours, fantasy and talent of Turkmen carpet makers and craftsmen greeted the participants of the celebrations. On that day a variety of Turkmen art and culture appeared before the people and guests of the Turkmen capital in the musical and dramatized performances, the national games and rites.
