The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a big mosque – a gift of the Government and people of Turkey to Turkmenistan was held in Kunya Urgench. The cabinet ministers, the high-ranking officials of the Dashoguz Velayat, religious figures and elders took part in the ceremony

The future mosque will be built nearby the mausoleum of scholar and philosopher, outstanding thinker of the East Najmeddin Kubra. This monument of XIV century oriental architecture is inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The mosque with the 1,500-seat hall and the 1,000-seat special premise for ritual meals, big museum and conference hall will form the architectural ensemble with the Najmeddin Kubra Mausoleum in the centre symbolizing the outstanding cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, embodying the common spiritual origins of the peoples of Turkmenistan and Turkey. The mosque will be constructed by GAP Insaat.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Turkmenistan Husein Avni Bychakly attended the ceremony.
