Ashgabat hosts Turkmenistan and World Cinematography International Film Festival

The ceremony of opening the Turkmenistan and World Cinematography International Film Festival was held in Ashgabat.

The film forum was held under the patronage of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who devotes special attention to development of the national culture and art – a priority trend of the national policy.

In the early morning the participants of the international film festival laid flowers to the Monument of Turkmenistan Independence. The bright show was performed in front of the Main Drama Theatre of Turkmenistan in the centre of the Turkmen capital. The hosts hospitably greeted the participants and guests of the festival in the festively decorated square.

The opening ceremony was held in the magnificent hall of the Main Drama Theatre. The cabinet ministers, the members of the large public organisations, the heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan and international organisations journalists, workers of culture and art took part in the ceremony.

The welcoming statement of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to participants of the International Film Festival was presented at the ceremony. ordially congratulating on opening the film festival the Turkmen leader focused on the particular role of the International Film Festival that was to contribute to versatile culture of different peoples worldwide, strengthen their spiritual kinship and popularize notable achievements of the national culture and art.

The musical compositions from H. Khalmamedov’s Symphonic Pictures and Turkmen binasy created by S. Tuyliev on Magtymguly’s poems performed by the State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan and the choir of the National Conservatoire of Turkmenistan became the overture to the forum.

A film director from the United States Protsick Duglas Michael, the TIKA representative in Turkmenistan Kemal Ozjan, a film producer from Germany Toch Niazik, a film director from Russia Sergei Rapoport, the representative of Polish Evrika Media Radoslan Maximilian, film expert from Iran Orazmuhammet Sarly and Director of Documentary Film Studio Shahadat Muradova (Uzbekistan) greeted the participants and guests of the Festival.

Those speaking at the ceremony noted that the Ashgabat film festival was an important event serving high humanistic ideals, cultural progress and strengthening mutual confidence and understanding among different peoples. The paramount significance Turkmenistan attached to development of the national culture and cinematographic art in particular gave evidence of the bright future of Turkmen cinematography.

A concert of the Turkmen cultural workers and artists concluded the festival opening ceremony. The exposition presenting the traditions and customs of the Turkmen people and Turkmen culture and art was arranged in the foyer.

In the afternoon the documentary and short feature films created by the Turkmen cinematographers – The Filial Duty by film director D. Niyazov, The Whirl by B. Abdullaev and L. Stepanskaya, Kushtdepdi by Sh. Annamuradova and A Journey to Kugitang by M. Annagldiev.

The films created by the Korean, Azerbaijani, American and French cinematographers were presented to filmgoers in the evening.
