Through the policy of wide international cooperation initiated by the Turkmen leader the world discovers Turkmenistan as a country with the great potential. In this regard humanitarian contacts promoting close friendly relations between different peoples play a paramount role. That is vividly illustrated by the international contest in ancient Samarkand that brought together the representatives of national art from different continents of the planet. The jury of the contest consisted of the professional musicians from all over the world. The concerts, meetings, conferences and contests arranged within the framework of the Festival vividly exemplify fruitful communication among musicians of 47 countries from all over the world.
The Sharq Taronalari ("Melodies of the East") International Music Festival was first held under the patronage of UNESCO in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in 1997. Its main goal is to popularize the achievements of the national music and arts of the Central Asian peoples, preserve the cultural heritage of the peoples of the East, encourage talented youth and expand international art contacts. The Sharq Taronalari Festival is unique for representation of all the types of singing and instrumental music. Every concert and every round of the contest transformed into the festivities demonstrating a diversity of the genres of national music.

It should be noted that the Turkmen artists were given the honour to open the Festival. The members of the international jury and numerous spectators highly appreciated the musicians’s masterly performance. The songs Etishermikam, Teshnit, Selbiniyaz, Balsayat performed inspiringly by a talented Turkmen singer Lyale Begnazarova were a discovery of the Festival.

“I was happy to represent Turkmen art at the prestige forum. I was very proud of our Motherland”, Lyale Begnazarova said. “Every time I take part in the art contests abroad I receive evidence of great interest shown by world community in our country, art and traditions of the Turkmen people, the progressive changes taking part in the Turkmen land. It’s great that I have something to tell about to my new friends and sing about to numerous spectators who cordially received each of our performance.”
